Dates Set For District LAX Summer Camp 2012
All incoming students and/or current students at Esperanza High School, Yorba Linda High School, El Dorado High School, and Valencia High School are eligible to attend camp. Dates: July 2nd – 25th, Mon – Thurs 10am -12pm (July 2 – 15 held at Shapell Stadium, July 16 – 25 held at Bradford Stadium). Cost is $200.00 per student. Checks payable to: “PYLUSD”. Address to send payments will be forthcoming. Athletic clearance required prior to camp….NO EXCEPTIONS! PLEASE SEE FLYER BELOW FOR ALL DETAILS. Foothill Knocks Off Aztecs in CIF Playoffs, 15-4
Playing in the second post-season game in school history, Esperanza's women's lacrosse team played host Foothill tight for the first ten minutes, but the #2 ranked Knights pulled away late in the first half and went on to defeat the Lady Aztecs 15-4 Tuesday night in the opening round of the CIF-SS playoffs. Rachel Banks (pictured) and Alison Scharkey each scored two goals for the Aztecs, while Megan Otsuka, Elly Mosher and Scharkey collected two ground balls a piece.  Lady Aztec goalie Casey Sandoval saved 18 of the 33 shots that came her way.   More >>

Esperanza to Face #2 Foothill in CIF Opening Round
The playoff brackets for the 2012 CIF Lacrosse Championships were released today.  Esperanza's Lady Aztecs were selected to participate in the playoffs for the second time in the program's four year history. Esperanza is seeded #15 and will square off against #2 seed Foothill in a CIF-SS first round game to be held on Tuesday, May 1st at 5:30pm at Foothill High School.    More >>

Lady Aztecs Complete Sweep of Yorba Linda, 14-13
Esperanza battled back from an early 5-1 deficit to defeat visiting Yorba Linda 14-13 on Thursday night to complete the season sweep over the Mustangs. Alison Scharkey scored six goals to lead the Lady Aztec offense. Megan Otsuka and Makenna Mosley netted two goals a piece to Esperanza, while Rachel Banks, Katie Brisbin and Hannah Sullivan scored one a piece. Defensively, Scharkey collected five ground balls and had three takeaways.  Brisbin and Madison Piwowar (pictured) collected four and three ground balls respectively, while Geena Vu, Elizabeth Quebe, Mosley, Rebekah Catron, and Brenna Buchanan gathered two each. EHS Women's LAX Fundraiser: DriveOne 4 Ur School
Esperanza High School and Fairway Ford are teaming up to raise money for EHS. On Saturday, May 5 from 8:30am to 3:00pm Fairway will bring 10 cars to EHS. Every test drive taken by a licensed driver 18 years or older will earn $20.  Flyer>>

Esperanza Splits Pair of Sunset League Games
Esperanza split their two league games played this week, beating visiting Newport Harbor 12-10 on Tuesday before losing today 15-3 to host Foothill, the #2 ranked team in the county. In the win against the Sailors, Esperanza erased a two goal halftime deficit to secure he win and the sweep the season series. Rebekah Catron (pictured) paced the Aztec defense as she collected two ground balls and had three takeaways, while goalie Casey Sandoval had 17 saves. Alison Scharkey scored four goals for Esperanza, while Megan Oksuka tallied three goals and Rachel Banks and Makenna Mosley netted two a piece.     More>>

Sandoval Named to WDNT Team
Esperanza's Casey Sandoval was one of seventeen top girls lacrosse players selected to represent Orange/LA Counties at the Women's Divisional National Tournament (full roster). The OC/LA team will compete in the tournament over Memorial Day weekend at Stony Brook University in New York against other elite regional teams from across the country. Lady Aztecs Outlast Sailors in Overtime Thriller, 15-13
Esperanza raced out to an 8-3 halftime lead against Newport Harbor as six different Lady Aztecs scored goals, only to see the Sailors mount a furious second half comeback to tie the score at 13 at the end of regulation. The Aztec defense responded by not giving up a goal in either of the two overtime periods and Esperanza went on to defeat the host Sailors 15-13 in their Sunset League game Thursday night. Goalie Casey Sandoval stopped a season high 34 shots. Megan Otsuka (pictured) scored four goals as did Alison Scharkey, including two in the overtime periods. Aztecs Overcome Early Deficit to Beat Mustangs, 10-7
Yorba Linda built an an early 2-0 first half lead over Esperanza, but the Lady Aztecs responded by outscoring the host Mustangs 6-1 the remainder of the half and went on to defeat Yorba Linda 10-7 on Thursday night and remain undefeated thru their first five games (4-0-1). Goalie Casey Sandoval saved 14 of the 21 shots she faced. Jessica Kim (pictured) and Makenna Mosley collected 3 ground ball a piece while Alison Scharkey collected 7 ground balls and had 4 takeaways. Offensively, Scharkey finished with 5 goals and two assists, while Mosley scored 2 goals and Katie Brisbin, Elly Mosher and Portia Yedinak each scored a goal.       More >>

Esperanza Wins Red Division Consolation Championship of 10th Annual Rose Bowl Jamboree
The Lady Aztecs traveled to Pasadena on Saturday to play in the 10th Annual Rose Bowl Jamboree tournament. Participating in the Red Division, Esperanza faced Woodbridge in the first of three games on the day and battled the Warriors to a 9-9 tie (stats).  After losing the coin flip to determine which team advanced to the winners bracket after the tie, the Aztecs defeated Dana Hills 6-3 (stats). In the consolation final, Esperanza beat Newport Harbor 6-5 (stats).       Team Photo>>

Potent Offense, Solid Defense Propels Lady Aztecs to Season Opening Win Over San Juan Hills, 14-0
The Esperanza women's lacrosse team raced out to a 10-0 halftime lead en route to a 14-0 season opening win on Thursday night over host San Juan Hills. Six different Lady Aztecs scored goals, while an unyielding defense and solid goaltending by Casey Sandoval (pictured) combined to produce the first shutout in school history. The Aztec offense was led by Alison Scharkey and Katie Brisbin, who scored 7 goals and 3 goals respectively, while Rachel Banks, Mia Clause, Jessica Kim and Portia Yedinak each scored 1 goal a piece.        More >>

The Butter Braid Bonanza is here!
EHS Women’s Lacrosse is teaming up with Butter Braid to raise funds for our athletes. A portion of the funds raised (42% to be exact) will go directly to EHS Women’s Lacrosse. By selling/purchasing the Butter Braid pastries, each individual contributes to a quality program that continues to build upon its successes year after year. Scharkey Signs NLI to Attend University of Oregon
University of Oregon head women's lacrosse coach Jen Larsen-Beck has announced the signing of 13 prep athletes to National Letters of Intent, including Lady Aztec senior Alison Scharkey (pictured). The new Ducks join the rest of the team on campus in fall 2012. Four of the newest Ducks hail from California, three from Pennsylvania and two from Massachusetts and Maryland and one from Oregon and Ohio to round out the signing class.    More >>

Haase Named Lady Aztecs LAX New Head Coach
Cassandra Haase (pictured) has been named  the new head coach of the women's varsity lacrosse team at Esperanza High School. Haase replaces Drew Yasbek, who recently resigned to pursue another career opportunity after leading the team to its first ever appearance in the CIF playoffs. Coach Haase played lacrosse all four years at Lasell College in Newton, MA and in her junior and senior year was selected GNAC First-Team All-Conference as a defensive player. Most recently, Haase was part of the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse coaching staff for the 2010-2011 season, where they had their first winning season since the start of the program.
